Garage Door Stuck

Openers, remotes and keypads

Programming a remote, a keypad or a car to a garage door opener, clearing its memory, and reading its blinking lights, from the makers' own manuals.

Most of this is work you can do from a stepladder: a remote that stopped working usually needs a battery or to be paired again, and a blinking light is the opener telling you what it found. Each page follows the manufacturer's manual and links to it. If your manual says something different, your manual wins: models change, and the steps change with them.

Springs, cables and anything else holding the door's weight are a different matter. The federal text printed in every residential opener's manual says to "have a qualified service person make repairs to cables, spring assemblies and other hardware." See broken spring and snapped cable.
